Field Service App Equipment module

The Equipment module in the Field Service app is where technicians can:

  • Search for equipment that exists in their organization

  • Quickly open and check the details of that equipment

Technicians can find equipment by various filters such as company, barcode, serial number, keyword, type, status, Within a range of and more.

Think of it as a powerful search screen that helps technicians find the right equipment, location while they are on-site, or when technicians need to check an equipment or location information.

How to get to the Field Service App Equipment module:

  1. Open the Field Service app on your mobile, desktop, or tablet.

  2. Go to the main menu icon ( 9-dot) in the top right corner.

  3. Tap on Equipments. The Equipment Search screen will open.

When you open the Equipment module, the first screen is the search screen. Technicians will see various filters to search for equipment.

You can search using these filters:

  1. Company

  2. Barcode

  3. Serial number

  4. Keyword

  5. Equipment type

  6. Status

  7. Within a range of (distance from your current position)

  8. Type (kind of equipment or location or mobile equipment)

You can use a single filter or combine several filters together and click the search button to get the results you need.

How the equipment list is shown

After a technician start a search, the app shows a list of matching equipment.
There are two ways this list can look:

  1. Tree list view: This view shows parent equipment and their children in a “tree” structure. It is used when you search by the filter Company, and the number of results is 50 or less. In this view, technicians will see all equipment under its location, and all sub-equipment will be displayed under their parent equipment in a tree list view, making it easy to understand the structure (for example: Site → Building → Machine). Select the equipment or location to go into the equipment or location detail screen.

  2. Tab list view: This view is a simple “flat” list of equipment and location. It is used in all other search filter cases (for example: barcode, serial number, keyword, status, etc.). It is also used when a company search returns more than 50 results.

In both list styles, each equipment line shows:

  • First line: the reference, type and name.

  • Second line: For locations: the main address if available. For other equipment: serial number and barcode.

If an equipment(parent) has children or sub-equipment, you see a small “next” arrow at the end of its row; tapping it lets you open its children or sub-equipment.

There is also a “Detail” button on each equipment and location, when you tap it you go to the equipment or location detail screen.

FSA Equipment Module Search filters

Company: Use this when you know which customer or company the equipment belongs to. The screen for searching by company looks like the normal customer search screen, select the company filter and type the name of the company or customer to display results. However, it only shows companies that actually have equipment linked to them. After you pick a company, the app goes directly to the list of equipment for that company. If there are 50 or fewer results, the list is shown in a tree view. If there are more than 50 results, the list is shown as a flat tab list.

This is useful when you are on a customer site and want to see all equipment they own or use.

Barcode: Use this when you want to find equipment by scanning or entering a barcode. You can type the barcode in the barcode field on the search screen, or tap the barcode icon and use the camera to scan the barcode. The app looks for an exact match of the barcode. If a match is found, you are taken straight to that equipment. If no match is found, a message appears saying there is no data. The results are shown in a tab list if there are several, but normally you go directly to the single matching equipment.

This is very practical when you are in front of a machine with a barcode label.

Serial Number: Use this when you know the serial number of the equipment, or part of it. You can only type the serial number; you cannot scan it. The search checks if the serial number contains the text you typed, so you can enter the full number or just a part. If no matching serial number is found, you see the same “no data” message as for barcode. If one or more matches are found, you see a list of equipment in list style.

Keyword: Use this when you do not know the barcode or serial number, but you know some text about the equipment.

This filter searches in many fields linked to the equipment, such as:

  • Equipment reference and name

  • Barcode

  • Description

  • Serial number

  • Location and address

  • Company name

  • Equipment type

In simple words, if the word appears anywhere in the main equipment information, the search can find it. If there are no matching results, you see the same “no data” message. If there are results, even if it is only one equipment, the app still shows them as a tab list.

Equipment Type: Use this when you want to see all equipment of a certain type.
For example: all “Boilers”, all “Compressors”, all “Pumps”, based on the type setup by your organization. You choose the type from a drop-down list. The app then shows all equipment linked to that equipment type. The results are shown in a tab list.

This is helpful when you need to focus on one specific kind of equipment across many customers or locations.

Status: Use this when you want to filter equipment by its status.
The available statuses depend on the organization configuration, example are “Active”, “Inactive”, “Under maintenance”, etc. You choose a status from a drop-down list and the app shows all equipment with that status. The results are shown as a tab list.

This helps you quickly see, for example, all active equipment at once.

Within a range of (distance): Use this when you want to find equipment that is near your current position.

You can choose:

  • All

  • Within a range of 100 meters

  • Within a range of 500 meters

  • Within a range of 1 kilometer

Location services (GPS) must be enabled on your device. The app checks which equipment is located within the chosen distance from the technician or user current position. It then shows a tab list of all equipment found in that area.

This is very convenient when you arrive somewhere and want to see what equipment is nearby.

Type: Use this when you want to filter by the kind of object you are looking at in the system, such as:

  • Locations

  • Equipment

  • Mobile equipment

You choose one or more types using the checkboxes and click the search button. The app then only shows equipment that matches those types, in a tab list.

This helps you, for example, to see only “locations” without mixing them with equipment, or only “mobile” equipment.

When one or multiple filters has been selected, click the search button to show the result. There is also a clear button to remove all selected filters.

The “Detail” button on each equipment and location result, when you tap it you go to the equipment or location detail screen.

When you see the list of equipment or location after a search, the filters you used are also shown at the top of the result screen. This lets you easily check how the list was created, for example which company or status you selected.

If you want to change your search, you do not need to leave the equipment screen completely. You can go back to the main search filters by tapping the filter icon in the top right corner of the screen. This opens the equipment page with the search filter again, where you can adjust your filters and run a new search.

Extra search box in the equipment list

When the list is shown in tab list style, there is usually a search box above the list.
This box lets you quickly filter within the results by typing part of:

  • Reference

  • Equipment Name

  • Serial or barcode

  • Description

  • Company name

  • Equipment Type

  • Location information

It is a quick way to narrow down a long list without going back to the main search screen.
