Introduction

This article explains all the options available in the Settings section of the Field Service app. The language is kept simple so everyone can understand it easily, even if they are not very technical.

Whenever you open the Main Menu and click Settings, you will see different tabs:

  • Preferences

  • Profile

  • User Rights

  • Extra Info

  • Knowledge Base

  • Support

  • About

Each tab has its own purpose. Below is a clear explanation of every tab and the options inside.

Preferences Tab

The Preferences Tab in the Field Service App settings is designed to let users (such as field technicians and administrators) customize how the app behaves and looks, tailoring it to their personal workflow and needs. Here’s what you can do in the Preferences Tab:

Interface Language

Allows users to select the language in which the app’s interface is displayed. By default, this matches the organization’s language, but users can choose another available language from a dropdown list.

Only languages enabled by your company will appear in the list.

When you change the language, all menus, buttons, notifications, and help texts will appear in your chosen language.

Determine Location

Controls how often the app checks your GPS location in the background. You can choose intervals like every 5, 10, or 15 minutes.  More frequent updates mean more accurate tracking for dispatchers, but may use more battery.

Automatic Synchronization

Sets how often the app automatically syncs your data (work orders, timesheets, inventory, etc.) with the portal.

My Car

Lets you select your assigned work vehicle from a list of available vehicles. You can choose your default car here. When you select a car, all your travel, mileage, and stock movements are linked to that vehicle. If your company tracks mileage, you’ll be prompted to enter the current odometer reading.

You may also be require to set a pincode for security if your car is linked to a mobile warehouse.

If you already started a car travel timesheet, you cannot change the car until you stop it. The app will show this message: “Please finish the current timesheet activity before changing your default car.”

Some cars may be linked to a stock location that requires a PIN code.
If a PIN is required, you will see a button:

  • Set Pin Code (if no PIN set yet)

  • Reset Pin Code (if PIN already exists)

When you click it, a popup will open to enter a new PIN.
You cannot leave this page until a required PIN is set.

If the car is not linked to any stock, the app will show:
“No stock location assigned.”

Default WO Duration

Sets the default time duration for new work orders you create on the field service app. When you create a new work order in the field service app, the duration field will be pre-filled with this value. You can still change it for each work order if needed.

Measurement Plugins (Testo)

This section shows all measurement tools supported by the app.

You will see:

  • A checkbox to enable or disable the plugin

  • The name of the plugin

  • A Test button to check if it is working

Currently supported:

  • Testo Combustion App

  • Testo Hotspot

  • Testo QR Code

  • Testo Bluetooth (only on Android/iOS)

Your selection is saved locally in the app.

Theme

Allows you to change the app’s visual appearance (e.g., light mode, dark mode, or company-branded themes). If your company has disabled theme changes, then you won’t be able to change it. Changing the theme can make the app easier to read in bright sunlight or at night.

Timesheet Fill Range (Minutes)

Sets the rounding interval for time entries in your timesheet. This option decides how your timesheet time will be rounded. You can choose to round time entries to the nearest 5, 10, or 15 minutes.

Notification Sound

Lets you turn notification sounds on or off for the app. When enabled, you’ll hear a sound for new job assignments, messages, or alerts. When disabled, notifications will be silent (but still appear visually)
By Default it is Enabled.

Biometric Authentication

You can enable fingerprint or face unlock here. This option only appears if your device supports it.

Used Parts – Default Filter

Sets the default filter for the “Used Parts” section when adding parts to a work order.
By Default it is set to Recommended parts.

ETA Messages

The ETA option in Preferences allows users to manage and customize ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) message templates within the app. Select a language and add up to four ETA message templates per language. When a technician click the Send ETA button on a work order, the app then sends an ETA message to the customer or contact person, informing them when you are expected to arrive.

Profile Tab

This tab shows your personal information. You can edit most of the details.

Shows your personal name details. You can edit both fields, but last name is mandatory (the app will not let you save or leave the tab if it’s empty). Used for identification in reports, schedules, and communications.

Any changes you make in the Profile Tab are saved automatically as soon as you modify a field, no need to press a save button.

User Rights Tab

The User Rights tab in the field service app displays a list of permissions or access rights assigned to the user. These rights determine what features and data the user can access or modify in the app. Each right is usually displayed as a toggle, checkbox, or label indicating whether the user has that permission. If the user is granted the right to manage their own user rights, the User Rights tab will allow them to toggle permissions on or off for themselves directly within the Field Service App. Each right (such as access to work orders, equipment, timesheets, etc.) will appear as a switch or checkbox that the user can enable or disable as needed.

If the user does NOT have the right to manage their own user rights, the User Rights tab will be view-only. the user can see which permissions are assigned to them, but cannot make any changes. Only an administrator can modify their rights on the portal in this case .
